5/5 stars A near-death experience while giving birth to her first child sets the tone for "The Tavern" as Nina Simone struggles to find her freedom as she searches the world for answers of the nothingness she longs to feel again. Through a poetic tone of voice, the description was captivating to read and made me feel as if I was there myself. The way Nina talks is the way I believe, every woman to think, she has a right to be herself and will do as she pleases. "Dear, I know it might sound like madness to you, but the moment that death separated me from the life was the most beautiful feeling the nothingness that I've ever experienced." I personally loved how fast paced the book was, a great beginning, loved the plot and I dug right into the problems at hand with no problem. Nina lost and gained so much in so little time, it's gives a sense of reality as this could happen to anyone. Extremely satisfying to read and beautifully written. Thank you to Burbuqe Raufi for sending me the novel to review. Truly, BiblioBeautyBooks

These collections of poetry were simple incredible. You could feel the growth and memorizing lines as they gained depth with every poem. You feel the passion and emotional background put into the poems. They aren't just words but stories that compel you to feel her the pain in the voice. I would like thank Dr.Nazree herself for sending me her book to review, I loved every poem and every piece was taken to heart. A few of my favourites included: HEARTACHE I see the shadow of a frail lily Obscured behind your tender eyes Just before you turn them Away from my inquisitive gaze Without answering the question That remains unspoken in our midst. And I cannot help But wonder How much longer You will continue to pretend That your feelings for me Faded the day I chose another. RELAPSE I sit huddled With this terrifying silence That crushes me Behind closed doors. Like ocean waves They rush in and wreck me Dark and deadly Across ominous shores. The shattered glass fragments Shine beautifully and terribly Weeping trickles of blood Onto the floors. And I finally know What they mean by relapse As the voices lead me to a razor On all fours. STIGMA Maybe if I stand Close enough To the fireplace I can burn In something Besides this Searing shame. Yours truly, BiblioBeautyBooks 4.5/5 stars Outbreak heroes with a history twist. BLURB- OUTBREAK MUTINY is alternate history. With Superheroes. It takes place in a world where superpowers are real and an entire generation known as Outbreak Babies manifest their abilities after suffering a severe injury or trauma. In this world, superpowers are treated like a resource and those who possess them are in demand by the powerful. The Reich has taken over the world after Germany pledged their allegiance to the most powerful of all Outbreak Babies, The Reichsmensch. He governs a caste society ruled by Warlords in conquered territories. Those who join the Reich attend Acolyte Academies where they seek the honor of earning a Warlord Trial. Life is hard for those living outside the Reich in the Remnant States. The map I provided should show the new boundaries of the land known as the Old US. When Issue 1 begins, we find the stragglers in the Remnant just struggling to survive as a Virus breaks out in the Chicago Buffer Zone. Once a war broke between group of powerful human beings and the United States, then group ended in defeat at the hands of Reichsmensch. 10 years later, a virus had plagued Chicago, the Outbreak babies attacked the zones and what was left of humanity. Superpowers could manifest at any time, nobody was safe. The added concept of superhero's gave the novel comic all the more captivating situations more in depth characteristics of a great fantasy. The alternative history stories always catch me by surprise and this book left me wanting more and looking forward to the next issues. I found Outbreak Munity well-crafted and took sharp stabs at characters mysterious components of their abilities that gave more depth to the story as a whole. Even if you're not a comic book fan, this story will definitely not disappoint. You Die Free, or Live in Chains. Which will you choose? "You are ill Mr. Arnold, just not in the way that you think." They say seeing is believing, but what if feeling could work the same? While running from an unseen illness, Nathan can't seem to get a diagnosis for what he feels inside. After finding something that would change his life forever, his illness was the least of his worries. An overturned room, a missing usb with a recorded murder on it and an upbringing of mental instability is what drives Nathan into a unpredictable series of events. As Nathan catches multiple unlucky breaks, he starts to see who he really is, who he is supposed to be and who is really on his side. A necromementor, meaning Nathan can feel the feelings of people who've just passed away. Being framed for murder is not the only reason Nathan must prove his innocence. Read Home by Jack Price to find out how this disturbing story plays out. "There really was more to life than what meets the eye." This book truly disappointed me as I loved when they said Nathan has a gift. But that was all it was, it was never talked about after. I wish Nathan's gift would have helped him along his journey, not just pushed aside. I felt as if the ending was rushed and lacked many aspects as to why they pinned the murders on Nathan and why there was a random old woman and her blind son in the forest awaiting him. To say the least, the book was a good read, just disappointed in the ending. Yours truly, BiblioBeautyBooks 4/5 stars! Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil's name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr. But what Starr does or does not say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life. Keep your hands visible. No sudden moves. Only speak when spoken to. I was immediately draw to this story. I have read many books that involved racism but never one such as profound as Thomas captured this young girls life sink at the palm of her hands. Through a different lens, racism is grasping at a huge part of Starr's life through relationships and injustice. Shared through a diverse perspective, an honest, first-hand account of what goes unseen and but not unheard: racism. Starr's character is an inspiration to woman of every ethnicity and race as she stands for a purpose and resilient. As you follow the growth of Starr, you see the selflessness within her as she possess the means to be fearless, regardless of what challenges she may face. The Hate You Give tackles many topics responsibly such as racism, police brutality and discrimination in a non-judgmental, hateful way. This book NEEDS to be read and taught in High Schools, no doubt about that, but also read in youth groups and communities as this novel demonstrates the dynamic lifestyle many of the world live every day. This is reality, no matter how hard the world tries to look away, there is always a voice and a side that needs to be heard. Starr's voice is refreshing, realistic and captivating. 5/5 Stars! Filled with action, intrigue, and suspense, Path of Jen will get you fired up and tug at your heart all at once. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience a completely different world." If only Jena knew this wasn't a world she wanted to be a part of. After not putting this book down for the past 5 hours, I can honestly say I was captivated the entire novel. I like to describe this book as 'one to remember' as the lifeless act of trafficking young woman in the Middle East does not go unnoticed within Wood's novel. This story engrossed my mind beyond belief to the point where I could image the situational emotions Jen was feeling in every instance of the book. This story captivated the reader into the terrifyingly intriguing world of Jen. A cry for faith is what engulfs her mind and pushes her heart through the unimaginable-slavery. An all American, Texas born Iranian, must prove her strength not only to herself, but to those who captured her. Travelling to the Middle East and being taken is the least of Jen's worries. Branching off the Islamic law and how unseen acts go unnoticed across the world, Wood uses the elements of faith, perspective and diversity but chooses to connect the ties of characters to untold truth of experiments which brings a uniqueness to the books entirety. Yours Truly, BiblioBeautyBooks 5/4/2017 0 Comments REVIEW- 37 Hours by J.F KirwanNow she has killed once, she knows she can do it again… Imprisoned by MI6 for two long years in solitary, Nadia suddenly finds herself free again. But there is a price to pay for her release. Another dangerous and near impossible mission – retrieve the Russian nuclear warhead stolen by her old nemesis, the deadliest of terrorists. But he is always one step ahead, and soon Nadia finds herself at the front line of preventing London from disappearing into a cloud of ash. Only this time, she is ready to pull the trigger at any cost. And with the clock counting down from 37 hours, time is running out… What if you watched someone die and then you became the target? What if you got someone you loved back but had to be exchanged for your sister? I found this book very intriguing at the beginning, two stories evolving into one. I like how the author made the beginning intriguingly suspenseful as he articulately described the van structure and where we was being held. "Vladimir mapped the van inside his head. The van layout was standard: two seats in the front facing forward, two benches in the back facing each other. Two front doors on the driver and passenger side, a double door at the rear. He was on the left-side bench, a heavy beside him, one opposite. The leader was in the left-hand front seat, the driver on the right. He needed to know if there was anything between him and the driver, in front on the opposite side, such as a vertical strut, or a metal grill. Because if there was either of those things, his plan wouldn’t work." This paragraph had me indulged with every word. This book reminded me a lot of the movie "Taken" where a man's issues becomes his families as well. I also enjoyed how the author jumped back and forth between the fathers and daughters situations as they were extremely different but were both looking for the same thing; freedom. One quote that will stick with me for a very long time will be the following. This quote makes the story turn darker and gives the reader a wandering mind as to what this character may be like. "He is blind, but can see. Water and air are the same to him. He will find you in the darkness. You will not hear him when he comes for you." The first couple chapters are an adrenaline junkies dream while reading- being hidden for not the protection of others but herself, deep sea diving into what could be your death, not aware of what others around you may have on their agenda and if it involved you. After the first 10 chapters, I became lost as the story began to trail all over the place. First Nadia's father was back, then she was needed for another job, then they took her sister for ransom as a trade for her father, than London was threatened. I found it everywhere. I was very confused on why certain characters were huge in the beginning than were forgot about until the end and weren't discussed. Sergei was a huge character in the beginning but doesn’t come back to life until the last couple chapters. I was also disappointed in how I didn't feel much connection between the characters as I wish I did. I wish the author would have elaborated on the militaries previous plans as if they didn’t plan on having Nadia as their frontline. It jumped from a threat to an abduction to saving London. It was everywhere. I personally would not recommend this book. Rate: 2/5 stars |
